Vicky Almazidu
Jazz singer with world carrier, vocal trainer with an international experience, recording artist. Born in Bulgaria, since 1987 has been living in Greece. Educator, voice trainer with 25 years experience in Greece. The founder of the first Jazz Vocal Class, held at the Synchronous Conservatory of Thessalonica, Greece. Her unique method of training makes her famous throughout Greece as she helped her students realize their potential and reach the world scenes. Many of them continue their education in the Netherlands, Great Britain, and USA, Two of her most accomplished students graduated from the Berkeley College, Boston.

In the last 10years Vicky has been a jury member at many international vocal festivals and competitions.

Vicky has a brilliant career as a jazz singer and recording artist. She has collaborated with such jazz musicians as Milcho Leviev, Airto Moreira, Billy Cobham, Peter Erskine, G. Kontrafouris, Mishel Lambert, D. Vassilakis, Yiotis Kiourtsoglou, Oleg Chaly, Valeri Kostov, Theodossi Spassov, Antony Donchev, and many more from all over Europe.

In 1995 she founded the “Jazzoo” quartet. The band worked together for five years. Since 2000 she’s been performing with the TRS – Thessaloniki Rhyhm Section. Vicky Almazidu works with famous Greek jazz musicians such as Grigori Simadopoulos, Nikos Salonitis, Nikos Psofogeorgos, Oleg Chaly, Hristos Gremenaglou, Kostas Maginas, M. Stefanidis. She also works with virtuoso pianist and composer Georgios Kontrafouris.

Vicky established the group “Lydian Riff” with Greek and Bulgarian musicians for several performances at jazz festivals. In 2002 she began performing with Milcho Leviev at some of the biggest music festivals in Bulgaria and abroad, and has performed in famous jazz clubs on the Balkans.

In 2002 the album “Dream” is released – an unique combination of singer’s own arrangements of authentic Bulgarian and Greek folk melodies, developed into modern jazz pieces and songs.

In 2004 as a result of two years creative collaboration with Milcho Leviev, their album “Quiet Love” is released. Critics determined the album as one of the best music events of the year.


Summer Music Academy
New Bulgarian University, Sofia has established the Summer Music Academy, combining the Master Classes of Milcho Leviev and Vicky Almazidu and for first year presenting the Master Class of Glenn Ferris – France. The Summer Music Academy is an opportunity for a summer semester as a temporary alternative and it’s main priority is to provide an intensive training by internationally experienced and popular tutors on subjects and themes of present interest, which are not included in the standard music curriculum.

Fund “Milcho Leviev & Vicky Almazidu” founded at the New Bulgarian University supports and stimulates the participants from the Summer Music Academy by granting yearly scholarships and partially covering expenses of the best students.


Master Class
For the sixth year New Bulgarian University will carry out the Master Class “The Art of Singing” in pop and jazz singing, ethno-jazz and world music. The University gives an opportunity to the young musicians to take part in the Master Class of the world wide acknowledged singer Vicky Almazidu, to work with her and study her methods of performing. Her work with the students develops not only proficiency in singing techniques and musical devices, but it builds an understanding of how to gain a different conception of the world through music.


1. Eligibility: pop and jazz singers, from all nationalities, without age limitations

2. Audition is scheduled:
–  For attendants – September 7, 2010, 2.00 p.m., Ceremonial Hall, New Bulgarian University, Sofia, Bulgaria or
–   with audio-visual materials sent no later than September 3, 2010

3 . Requirements:
For the audition every participant is expected to prepare 3 songs:

  • a folk /ethno/ song
  • a jazz standard
  • a song of the candidate’s choice

The candidate may also consult the tutor in advance about his/her audition repertoire.

There will be pianists available for the candidates.

4 . Selection
After the audition Vicky Almazidu will select a group of up to 10 active participants. The Master Class is opened for course attendants, listeners and audience.

5. The graduates of the Master Class will receive a Certificate from the New Bulgarian University and will perform on the stage together with the world famous jazz musicians Milcho Leviev, Glenn Ferris and Viky Almazidu at the Gala Concert.

6. The participants agree to take part in upcoming performances on stage organised by the Master Class and the New Bulgarian University, after approval of Vicky Almazidu.

7. The best participant will be granted the yearly scholarship of the Fund “Milcho Leviev & Vicky Almazidu”

8. An offer for upcoming professional contracts, managed by the New Bulgarian University is going to be made to the best participants from the Summer Music Academy.
