This Annual book 2016 of Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University comes under number 21. It has been Issued for 21 years now – first on paper and starting from 2008 – online.
In the first section of the Annual book 2016 are included studies of fellows of the Mass Communications Department at New Bulgarian University.The study "Machine Learning, Industry And Media" by Prof. Rusi Marinov, D.Sc. emphasizes that convergence between the physical and digital world is driven forward not only by technology, but also by the emergence of new platforms and systems that create opportunities for more users to experiment and learn.
Prof. Vladimir Mihaylov, D.Sc. in "Crowdsourcing And Media Content" claims that the monopoly of the media to generate content is over. It seems now in the hands of the "crowd". The future of the combination of crowdsourcing and media content is unclear as prospects for our common moral development.
The text "Display Language Of Umberto Eco: Talk Shows Through The Eyes Of Students From NBU" from Prof. Tolya Stoitsova, D.Sc. is dedicated to the application of the coding system of Umberto Eco description and comparison of identical television products. The research was done on the basis of written work of students from the New Bulgarian University. Their task was to implement the display language of Umberto Eco in analyzing talk show broadcast their choice.
The phenomenon of "reality show" is subject to the review and analysis of the study "Critique Of Audiovisual Documentary" by Prof. Mihail Meltev, Ph.D. This phenomenon (in digital media) is essentially a transformation of the documentary in popular entertainment.
The article "The Moscow International Film Festival and Bulgarian Presence In It" by Assoc. Prof. Petia Alexandrova, D.Sc. considers Bulgarian participation in one of the oldest and most authoritative, but ideologically laden film festivals. During socialism - with its official face. The study "Procedures For The Election Of Directors Of BNR And BNT" by Assoc. Prof. Raina Nikolova, D.Sc. is focused on the procedures for the election of directors of the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) and the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) in the period 1999 – 2016.
Assoc. Prof. Rossen K. Stoyanov, Ph.D. in his study "Communication Democracy - New Paradigms" points out that the study of mass communication has always been more than just focusing on just one research field. Structuring theoretical settings always depended on the ability to enter into the other side, in bordering disciplines such as political science, political theory, philosophy, and especially psychology and sociology.
The study "Beginning, Development And The End Of Joint Stock Companies "Bulgarian print" and "Press" of Assist. Prof. Todor G. Panayotov, Ph.D., tracks down and analyzes the overall development of the second largest newspaper company in the Third Bulgarian Kingdom. It is formed by joint stock companies "Bulgarian print" and "Press" that nearly a quarter century publish and print the central daily newspaper "Dawn".
Assist. Prof. Stoyko Petkov, Ph.D. examines some aspects of the changes brought by digitization particular in film distribution and exhibition of audiovisual content in his article "Digitisation Of Film Distribution And Exhibition". The author emphasizes that the focus has moved from "product" to "user".
The text "Elections 2016. Personal Pages Of Candidates On Facebook" of Assist. Prof. Evelina Christova, Ph.D. presents some of the conclusions from a research of the Facebook pages of eight of the candidates for President of the Republic of Bulgaria in the elections held in 2016.
The article “Reputation As A Strategic Resource" by Boryana Gigova, Ph.D. considers the added value of reputation. She points out that reputation is the key to a socially accepted image and adds value to the image of the organization, making it a preferred partner.
Dessislava Dankova, Ph.D. in the article "In The Era Of Sharing - Shared Thoughts About The PR Profession" attempted a brief analysis of the concept of PR. It focuses on identifying it and its history and analyzes the four models proposed by Grunig and Hunt.
The publication "The Refugee Crisis In Europe: "Emergency Response "Of Screen Arts" by Boril Mechkov represents the way in which European screen arts reflect not just the influx of large numbers of individuals with apparently different characteristics but their impact on host societies. A particular case is presented - documentary by director Gianfranco Rosi "Fire in the Sea" won the prize "Golden Bear" at the Berlin Film Festival.
The second section of the Annual book 2016 presents research of PhD students at the Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University.
The text of Teodora Zafirova "In politics - look for the woman!" Presents the role of women for the operation and development of societies, not only as guardian of the home, but also as important and socially significant figure in political life. It presents woman as a person, public figure and politician during all stages of historical development.
The "Indirect "market" lobbying" Boyan Mitrakiev argues that lobbying is to influence the representatives of the legislative or executive institutions by the private sector or civil society in order to carry out certain policies. In academic papers are indicated boundaries between the private and NGO sector on the one hand and the relevant politicians and civil servants on the other, but in practice this is not always the case.
„The role of media in disaster and crisis management“ by Stavros Кalogiannidis aims to approach and demonstrate the interaction of mass communication and in particular the role of media in the public communications field in times of crisis. By examining the role of media in times of crisis we consider the ability of a democratic society to meet and solve emergencies situations.
The third section of the Annual book 2016 presents the scientific forums organized by the Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University. These are Spring Conference entitled "Moral standards in journalism and PR", Autumn Conference on "Journalism and PR on the Internet" and Summer School on PR, entitled "Content hungry"
The fourth section of the Annual book 2016 presents books of fellows at the Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University. In the publishing house of the New Bulgarian University were published two books. These are: "Crisis management. Information Strategies and Internet platforms" by Prof. Rusi Marinov, and "Communication Democracy" by Assoc. Prof. Rossen K. Stoyanov. Publishing house "Roy Communication" published the book "The collective wisdom (crowdsourcing) “ by Assoc. Prof. Dessislava Boshnakova.
The fifth section "Gallery" of the Annual book 2016 presents photos of students from the Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University. The pictures are from the ceremony in the Aula of the university with the award for Student of the - Year Diana Kirova by the Public Relations Bachelor Program and photo report of Renetta Kirilova from TEDxNBU, 2016.
The sixth section presents students, class of 2016 of Department "Mass Communications" at New Bulgarian University who already found their inteship or job positions..
In the last section of the Annual book 2016 of the Department of Mass Communications at New Bulgarian University are traditionally presented the graduates with their names, pictures and titles of their diploma theses.
